~ My Extended Fosheim Family~

In 1905, my Grandpa Peter Fosheim came to America with his parents from Nordfjord, Norway. Here's a picture of him and his sister, Esther, shortly after arriving.

Great-Grandpa Thor & Great-Grandma Gjertina Fosheim and their family around 1935.

Uncle Richard and his wife, Alice Mae. He was killed in a car accident in 1963, leaving behind his wife and three young children. My dad tells a story about how he (Dad) used to run around barefoot, even though Grandma always told him not to. One day, Dad ended up with a big sliver in his foot and was crying to beat heck. He wouldn't let anyone touch his foot until Uncle Richard said, "Vic, if you let me pull that sliver out, there'll be one more man in this house today." Needless to say, Dad wiped his tears away, stuck his foot out, and said, "Take it out Richard."

Uncle Roger was also killed in a car accident shortly after this picture was taken in 1966. He was only 17 and just a junior in high school. From what Dad tells me, he was the best all-around athlete in the whole family and had the smoothest basketball shot Dad had ever seen. I've also heard that Roger had a personality that everyone loved...especially the girls. I remember Dad wearing the same sweater Roger's wearing here a lot when I was growing up.

This is the house where my dad grew up. The house I grew up in lies just to the west.

Grandma Viola looks so beautiful here. Dad says she had the "prettiest brown eyes." Grandpa Fosheim passed away at the breakfast table in 1965, & Grandma Viola also passed away in 1972. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to know either, but I sure love looking at pictures & hearing stories about them.

Uncle Joe's wife, Aunt Shirley, passed away after a long, painful battle with cancer on 2-2-03. She was also my godmother. To read a poem I wrote for Aunt Shirley's funeral, click here.

Uncle Johnny passed away on 3-18-03 as the result of a car accident. As children, he, Dad, & Uncle Roger used to wear Roy Rogers shirts. Please scroll up, &  you will see the three "cowboys" dressed up in their 1955 Christmas picture.

Uncle Johnny, Dad, Uncle Roger. This picture is precious to me as Dad is the only one left now.
